Arctic Foundations manufactures permafrost foundation systems incorporating thermosyphons under the trade names ThermoPiles and ThermoProbes. These passively refrigerated foundation systems, for use in permafrost soils, are the original and most widely used in Canada and Alaska. The foundations are economical, energy free, low maintenance and long lasting.
ThermoProbes and ThermoPiles are used in a wide variety of applications with thousands of units in use across Canada and Alaska. The first commercial installation was in 1960 and continues to preserve the permafrost today.
Thermosyphon system applications include:
● Buildings with at-grade or below-grade foundations
● Dams and other frozen soil containment
● Hybrid passive / mechanical refrigeration systems
● Transportation Infrastructure such as highways, streets, railways and pipelines
● Natural ice plants for hockey, curling and cold storage
