Flat-loop thermosyphons have a small diameter evaporator in which the refrigerant circulates around the loop and returns to the radiator. Flat thermosyphons are widely used in Canada beneath at-grade building.

All thermosyphons are passive, liquid/vapour, two-phase heat transfer devices. The system in the photo is used to remove heat from beneath the proposed building to prevent thawing of the frozen ice rich soils below the granular pad.
